Self Reliant Saturday

Today I'm taking a poll. 72 hour kits have been on my mind a lot lately. What are things that you have in yours that aren't necessarily obvious? Any ideas on the best way to start putting them together without breaking the bank? Any good master lists? I've been doing some research, but would love to hear from you!

i couldn't sleep after those fires last november knowing I had nothing officially together for a 72 hour kit. so for christmas this year i gave myself a 4 person 72 hour kit from incaseof. boring i know. it has all the basics, worth it for peace of mind alone! but i do need more food for it.

I hear ya Tisha!!
I took all 4 of our 72 hour back packs with us to High River, but they are in BAD need of restock. I did them when A was 2 months old!

I did it the super slow way. Took me about 3 months of gathering, picking up a few things each paycheck…
Candles and matches
mini first aid kit
toothbrush and toothpaste
soap, shampoo, hand sanitizer
1 clean pair of underwear and socks
4 water bottles and a bottle of DP
blankets, duct tape and a roll of money in each
can opener and 6 cans of food
candy and Gatorade
cards and a scribbler
flashlight
hand crank radio

then the girls bags have kids stuff…
pull ups
wet wipes
sippy
2 complete change of outfit
2 blankets
cryons and toys
plus the water and food

Hope this helps!

In our ward in Calgary, we had lists sent out every Sunday of what to put in our kits. The only thing that stuck with me was to put in a dollar for each person each week to build up emergency cash. Keep it in the coins so you don't have to worry about finding a place to break a large bill. We don't do the dollar a week anymore, but anytime we have loonies or toonies around I put them with the emergency cash. It's built up pretty quick too. I purchased the coin rollers from the dollar store to make it easier to store.
